Note from Our Executive Director

by | Nov 27, 2023 | News

Building an affordable, sustainable, and connected Seattle takes partnership. Our region is lucky to have a constellation of organizations that approach this shared challenge in different ways, staffed with people who get up everyday with the goal to make our region better.

It’s bittersweet to announce that I am leaving Commute Seattle to lead another of those organizations, Transportation Choices Coalition, Washington State’s non-profit advocating for better transit. It’s the organization that gave me my start in transportation 15 years ago, and I’m excited to lead it as we enter one of the biggest years for transportation our state has seen in a decade.

Transit can’t succeed statewide if it doesn’t succeed in Seattle and Puget Sound. That means Transportation Choices Coalition can’t succeed without a strong Commute Seattle.

I am certain that Commute Seattle has the people and leadership to do just that. Over the last two years, our 9 staff have proven that we can develop new approaches to our work that meet the unique moment we face after the pandemic. We revamped our Seattle Commute Survey to better understand the people beyond the percentages, netting over 60,000 responses. We crafted a three year strategic plan that set a more comprehensive direction for the organization. We built an advisory board that will guide the organization moving forward.

I want to thank our partners at the Seattle Department of Transportation, King County Metro, Sound Transit, the Downtown Seattle Association, and the Metropolitan Improvement District who put their trust in us to do this work. I have also been proud and inspired to work with our staff Kendle, Noah, Zarina, Priya, Kurt, Tara, Bethany, and Lily everyday. It has been a ton of fun.

If you think you are the leader who wants to build on this work and support this team, check out our posting for the Executive Director position.

I am excited to continue to be a part of this community and work with Commute Seattle and our partners to make a better region through transit. Looking forward to working with you in 2024!
