Read on for our spotlight Q&A with ETC, Stanley Roper.

Q & A with Stanley Roper, Employee Transportation Coordinator for Kaiser Permanente

What is your job title?

Commute Solutions Specialist (and ETC)

How long have you been an ETC or BTC?

~2.5 years

What does a typical workday look like for you?

Commute benefits coordination, parking data management, payroll/benefits allocation, and responding to employee feedback about their commute benefits.

Commute benefits and parking management fall into our small teams purview, and we operate 8 WA CTR sites/campuses.

What’s one success or positive experience you’ve had in your role as ETC or BTC? What made it successful?

Launching an employee facing intranet platform for commute benefits management demonstrated just how many of our employees enjoy their commute benefits.

On the day to day though, whenever an employee tries something new and finds a new way to travel other than a car ride and then takes their time to thank our team for helping them through the initial process, that’s when we feel really excited to be in our roles.

What’s one challenge you’ve faced in your role as an ETC or BTC? What strategies did you use to face that challenge?

Navigating corporate standards when it comes to communications, emails, and signage.

What’s one thing you’ve learned as an ETC/BTC?

Learned a ton about policy, but also the knowledgeable base of ETC coordinators and fellow ETCs that work every day to help their employees explore their benefits. It’s amazing how many small, local programs go unnoticed.

What advice would you give to a brand new ETC/BTC?

If you have a main site, spend some time commuting there, and see what the options are, from the employee’s perspective.
