This year’s event took place in Bell Street Park under the festive holiday lights, bringing in dog walkers from the Regrade Dog park, Belltown residents, and commuters from the Second Avenue protected bike lane and busy Third Avenue transit corridor. Over 200 people braved a rainy evening to stop by the Commute Seattle tent for giveaways, prizes, and educational resources. Bloom Coffee kept everyone warm with free cocoa, coffee, and matcha. Lime and Bird distributed over 150 free helmets. Wombi provided safety checks to their e-bike users, and Seattle Neighborhood Greenways, SDOT, Sound Transit, King County Metro, and the MID Community Safety & Hospitality Team connected people to resources.
As the days grow darker, it is important to reiterate that it is the responsibility of drivers to drive with care and look out for pedestrians and cyclists on roads, sidewalks, and intersections. Staying visible with lights and reflective gear is an important step that active commuters can take to keep safe and keep moving throughout the year.
