Ten Tips for Surviving Revive I-5
Major Revive I-5 construction is happening July 18 – August 18. The multi-year preservation project brings vital safety repairs to the Ship Canal Bridge. While travel will be challenging during this time, we all get a safer, more reliable (and less bumpy!) I-5 for generations to come.
As an employer, you can help keep your team moving during ongoing closures and lane reductions. Read our ten tips below!
1. Connect with the Commuter Hotline.
Promote our commute concierge hotline for customized trip planning. The hotline is available 8 A.M. – 6 P.M. Monday – Friday starting July 17 through August 15.
Call the Commuter Hotline at (206) 613-3132 or email us CommuterHotline@CommuteSeattle.com
2. Pick up the Fare Tab.
As an employer, you can purchase ORCA Business Passport or Choice, so every employee gets a transit pass. Book a consultation with Commute Seattle to learn more!
3. Help your Team Flip their Trips.
Point staff to FlipYourTrip.org from the Seattle Department of Transportation for helpful tips on how to flip car trips from Sal the Salmon.
4. Scoot and Bike = Rewards.
When you rent a bike or scooter from Lime, and ride to a transit hub, you can earn rewards towards free or discounted rides. Click here to learn how you can earn rewards by using Lime!
5. Micromobility Stipend.
Reimburse up to $30/month on Lime rides, this allows your staff to scoot or bike the last mile from transit without searching for parking.
6. Real-Time Intel Feed.
Drop @SDOTTraffic and @WSDOT_Traffic links into Slack or Teams each morning so staff can plan ahead.
7. Bike-Ready Workplace.
Convert a storage closet into secure indoor parking for your staff’s bicycles. Think about adding a floor pump and basic tools for your team. If your building has a shower, ensure that they are ready to be used and unlocked early for staff commuting by bike. Reach out to Commute Seattle for Bike Lane maps!
8. Carpool Royalty.
Do you provide on-site parking? Reserve the best parking stalls for 3-person carpools or vanpools. You can create a workplace vanpool with King County Metro by clicking here. For ORCA Business Passport holders, use your Vanpool & Vanshare subsidy to support your staff’s commutes.
9. Shift the Clock.
Offer earlier (7 A.M.) or later (10 A.M.) start windows to dodge peak congestion.
10. Guaranteed Ride Home.
Enroll in King County Metro’s Home Free Guarantee so commuters know that an emergency cab ride is covered.
