Work (Better) In Your Neighborhood: Capitol Hill Seattle

There has never been a better time to quit your commute and bring your work to our awesome neighborhood! Whether you have struck out and become your own boss or have finally been given permission to telecommute on a regular basis, working in the same neighborhood that you live in can mean:

  • a better work/life balance,
  • increased opportunities to meet collaborators/new business opportunities,
  • a stronger local economy, and
  • an increased knowledge about the Capitol Hill community.

Please join us for a casual workshop to learn and share great tips on where and how to work well in Capitol Hill. You'll learn about great local resources that are here to help you get started, improve your current work-from-home situation, and how to have more fun while you do it.  We'll be talking about great Capitol Hill-specific resources that are available to you (everything from great local coffee shops to neighborhood shared workspaces), so you won't want to miss out.

When: Wednesday, September 08, 2010 from 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM (PT)

Where: Office Nomads, 1617 Boylston Ave. Second Floor

FRIDAY FORUM: Visioning Transportation for the Next 20 Years

SEPT. 3 FRIDAY FORUM: Visioning Transportation for the Next 20 Years

Transportation Choices Coalition will b hosting their September Friday Forum about Visioning Transportation for the Next 20 Years

The September Friday Forum will be the only chance for King and Pierce County residents to hear about and weigh-in on Washington Transportation Plan 2030, the state's 20-year comprehensive transportation plan. What's your vision for transportation across the state over the next 20 years? Washington invests less than 1% of its transportation resources on public transportation, less than just about any other urbanized state. Adding highway capacity has been the state's focus over the last several decades while bicycle and pedestrian needs continue to be an afterthought on most state projects, undercutting our state's climate and land use goals. What's on your wish list for transit, bikes and sidewalks in Washington?

Washington Transportation Plan 2030 (WTP 2030) sets a 20-year course for Washington State's transportation system. The plan's goal is to highlight long-term funding shortfalls, service needs, and system-wide mobility and safety needs, along with recommended solutions and approaches aimed at moving the state's transportation network into the future. Again, the Sept. 3 Friday Forum will be the only chance for King and Pierce County residents to hear about the state transportation plan and weigh-in with comments in person. Please plan on attending before you begin your Labor Day weekend.

WHAT: Washington Transportation Plan 2030 with Transportation Commissioner Dan O'Neal and Paul Parker, Commission staff lead for WTP 2030.

WHEN: Friday, Sept. 3, 12:00pm - 1:30pm

WHERE:  King County Public Health - Chinook Building, Room 115, 401 Fifth Ave., Seattle (at Jefferson St.)

Ride the Wave to Oahu

Ride the Wave to Oahu

Sound Transit and the Oahu Visitors Bureau have partnered with sister radio stations Warm 106.9 and Movin' 92.5 to give Link riders a chance to "Ride the Wave to Oahu."

Listen to Warm 106.9 or Movin' 92.5 between Aug. 31 and Sept. 10 and then ride Link for your chance to win a trip to Oahu. The stations will be giving away two trips to Oahu provided by the Oahu Visitors Bureau.

Trip includes airfare, accommodations, airport pickup, free surf lesson, free admission to the Polynesian Cultural Center and more!

Here's how to win: Ride Link light rail and look for the secret password onboard. Text the word to 78592 for your chance to win. There will be a different word each day until Sept. 10.

You can also enter for a chance to win at: www.warm1069.com or www.movin925.com.

Not one of the Oahu winners? You can still get to Hawaii by riding transit

Taking public transit instead of driving can save you thousands of dollars a year. More than enough for a first-class trip to Hawaii.

Ride the wave to Oahu

Hawaii promotion

Starting Tuesday, Sound Transit is kicking off a two-week "Ride the Wave to Oahu," ad campaign where local radio stations Warm 106.9 and Movin' 92.5 will give away two trips to Oahu. The trips are provided by the Oahu Visitors Bureau and not Sound Transit. In addition, no Sound Transit employees or Boardmembers are eligible to win.

The kick-off is from 7-9 a.m. Tuesday at the SeaTac/Airport light rail station. The Oahu Visitor's Bureau is shipping 1,000 fresh flower lei's that will be handed out at the station by Hawaiian entertainers and Sound Transit's own Zap Gridlock.

The radio stations will encourage people to "Ride the Wave to Oahu" by using Link light rail and looking for special Rider Alerts posted each day with a new word that can be texted to the radio stations to be entered in the contests. Sound Transit is supporting the promotion with radio, print and transit advertising from its original "Ride Transit to Hawaii" campaign from last year.
